John often took Pauline on a day trip, which she loved, and unfortunately I was only able to accompany them occasionally , as it was difficult to leave my dad. One of my favourites was when we took Pauline and Marie to Fleetwood, in search of family history. We visited the caravan site that had been managed by their uncle and managed to track down a terrace house, where several generations of the family had lived. It was a very successful day out topped off with fish and chips at the Ferry Cafe, on the front at Fleetwood, overlooking the sea.

I wish I had been able to go on more adventures with them but we enjoyed lovely days out in the Lake District and a memorale holiday in the Cotswolds. Pauline was always good company and will leave a large void in our lives that will be hard to fill. She was a great Mother in Law and made an excellent pea and ham soup :)
